Counter-Strike 2 Update: Left-Hand & Workshop Maps!

Update of the 26th April 2024

After a wait of almost 7 months, the Counter-Strike devs have finally done it!
Sadly this update is not about a better VAC-Anticheat, but the community got some beloved and sought-after features back from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive!
An enormous part of the community longed for cl_righthand 0 (to play with your weapon model on the left side of your screen, “left”).
Now with the recent update, you can finally enable it in Counter-Strike 2!
It is even simplified and now in the normal settings, instead of behind a command like it was in GO.

Learn about the Lefthand command, what “bob” is, hosting CS2 Workshop maps with friends, and many more!

Lefthand

On the one hand, it is nice to finally have the option of using Lefthand again! A lot of people exclusively played with the View model on the left side. In some moments it gave you an advantage, that is why we are glad that it is now an in-game setting, instead of hidden behind a command!

Right hand (default setting)

Left hand (New setting, in “Options” under “Game” → “Item”)

On the other hand, this is not as seamless as in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which was just one continuous action, that just changed the way you see it- now you have to pull out your weapon. This results in a fire delay and you can not keep your “fire” button held, as it will not react after you switch your gun.
You have to press shoot again after you pull it out from the “other hand”.
We advise not using the new key bind for every corner, as you might be caught with your pants down!

View model bob

CS announced a new bob(bing) command!
The command that was enhanced and updated was the “cl_usenewbob 1” command.
”1” is for “activating” it, and “0” is for “disabling” it. This command has gotten a few new tweaks to be more similar to the bob commands of CS:GO.

Workshop Maps

A huge part of Counter-Strike has always been the workshop maps. Without the workshop, we would have not as many maps in the competitive pool as we have right now! A lot of maps started in the Steam Community Workshop.
In this article, you can learn more about the workshop and we also highlight some helpful but also some fun and silly maps -> Click Here!

With this update, you can start your own lobbies with friends on workshop maps!
This was a feature that was missed by a small, but vocal part of the CS-community.
It is time to discover and explore the vast facets that the workshop can hold in store for you.

You can now launch practice matches and workshop maps with party members, and this makes for some fun training/or just some silly games and a good time with your friends.

Misc

  • Viewmodel position setting and left/right-hand state are now networked and visible to first-person spectators.

  • Added a kill feed icon for "in-air" kills

  • Added the scoreboard to the ESC menu

  • Added Overwatch system to enable match demo review by trusted partners

  • Copenhagen 2024 Major sticker capsules are on sale now -75% off

  • Various price tweaks to kill rewards for many guns

  • If you press “Escape” you can now see the scoreboard as well

  • Replaced Overpass with Dust 2 in the Active Duty Group, current competition map pool, and Premier matchmaking (this is causing an uproar among the fans)

  • Added a "Dropped Weapons" panel, which shows (and allows the direct pickup of) weapons that have been dropped by teammates that are standing in the buy zone

Here is the “Dropped Weapons” panel. Your days of running out of your way to grab a drop are over!

Conclusion

We are quite happy with this update. It was long in the making, seeing as we did not receive a major update for quite some time. This change has a lot of quality-of-life improvements.

Not everything is perfect, but this update shows us how much is going on behind the scenes.
We hope to see some cool frags with the new “in-air” kill icon, that people go and venture into the Workshop
and play some fun maps with friends and that Valve continues to work on this great game!

We hope you liked this article and that you learned more about today’s update!
