CS2 Oddities: Strange items
Many items were added during the long course of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s lifespan. Some of these items we still love and use today, but some are…more obscure.
With a game as old as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, now with Counter-Strike 2, you can not know every single item in its detail and its purpose, especially once that you just never see around or talked about.
What are some of these weird items? What even was their purpose? Why do we not see them around anymore, or why don’t we use them at all?
In this article, we will try to illuminate some of Counter-Strike 2's strange and rare items, learn all about the odd items of Counter-Strike.
IEM Rio 2022 Storage unit
During the IEM Rio 2022, you could buy this Rio-inspired storage unit.
The IEM Rio 2022 Storage Units came with a price tag of 16.99$ or 17.29€ for the paper sticker variant (meaning every paper sticker from this major) and with a price tag of 64.99$ or 65.99€ for the better glitter sticker version. Both of them came in a new exclusive jungle-themed look.
Quite a few people bought the Storage Unit, and now it is somewhat of a collectable, as this was the first, and so far only time, that special storage unit was in the game. This is even more weird, as you can not see Storage units in the inventory of other players anymore.
StatTrak™ Swap Tool
This item has been in the game since March 31, 2015. And yet most people have probably never ever seen, let alone used it. The StatTrak™ Swap Tool can be a quite useful tool.
Lets imagine you have an StatTrak™ AK-47 that you love, but you want to sell it to buy a more budget version. You have already racked up 10.000 kills with it. What to do? Just let these kills go into nothingness? Nope!
With the StatTrak™ Swap Tool you can swap your kills to another AK-47 and keep the StatTrak™ kill score.
It “Swaps” the StatTrak™ between the two weapons. You can transfer your Kill score.
In the CS2 Store you can buy the Swap Tool as a double pack under “Store” -> “Tools”. You will receives two individual tools.
If you want a “solo” StatTrak™ swap tool, that can only be bought on the Steam Market (~50 cent) for some reason, and the double kit is not available on the Steam market at all.
And yes, CS2 forgot to update its picture as it is very low resolution in the game menu.
As of the “Armory Update” this item was replaced by a very simplified version:
Gift Packages
Another old but iconic item is the Gift Packages. This item has three different tiers.
If you redeem one of these items either a single player or X amount of players gets a random “gift”.
You can not choose who receives the gift on the server, nor will the collection the gift be dropped from.
The gifts are random drops from one of the following collections:
Lake, Safehouse, Train, Mirage, Italy, Dust 2, Bank*
A simple “Gift package” gives one (1) random player in your game a random original collection item.
The bigger “Pallet of Presents” gifts all 9 players on the server (except the giftee) a randomly selected drop from one of the above collections.
A different route is taken by the “Audience Participation Parcel”. This giant gift package is not sent out to players on the server, but, as the name already implies, to the “Audience”. This gift will be sent out to 25 people viewing the user's (giftee’s) match and will receive a random item!
*Those were only the collections we were able to confirm. Technically there is a chance to get “old, original” items, for instance the Mirage and Dust 2 collection have gotten a revamp in 2021. There is a chance to get “old” collection skins, but we have, with hours of research, not seen skins better than Mil-Spec.
