What is Float?
Float value explained
The float value (FV) in CS:GO is a number of 16 digits that defines the condition of your skin. The lower a float, the better the condition. In most cases it also defines how good the weapon looks, how sought after it is and ultimately how expensive it is.
The different float values, and what condition they represent, is here:
——————————————————
Factory New (FN)
0.0 - 0.6999x
This is the lowest float with the best condition, and in most cases, the most expensive.
Minimal Wear (MW)
0.07 - 0.1499x
Field-Tested (FT)
0.15 - 0.3799x
Well-Worn (WW)
0.38 - 0.4499x
Battle-Scarred (BS)
0.45 - 1.00
This is the highest float, and in some rare cases, the most expensive.

Factory New vs. Battle Scarred
A Factory New skin will always look more nice and clean than a Battle Scarred, which often looks quite ruined. This rule applies to all skins.
On the pictures below you can see how big of difference there is between a Factory New versus a Battle Scarred AK-47 | Vulcan.
Here is the AK-47 | Vulcan in Factory New. It has a float of 0.039293624.
Here is the Vulcan in Battle Scarred. It is exactly the same gun as above, but just in a much worse condition. This AK-47 | Vulcan in Battle-Scarred has a float of 0.626299858.
In this example, the AK-47 | Vulcan in Factory New costs €272 while it goes for €27 in Battle-Scarred.
The exception to the rule
Even though it is mostly the “Factory New” one that is the most expensive, there are exceptions to the rule. Also, it is not every skin that goes from 0.0x - 1.0x in the float value. On likely the most iconic skin in the world of CS:GO, the AWP | Asiimov, there is only a float range of 0.18x-1.0x.
The same rules does still apply though, regarding the float values above - which means that for the Asiimov there is simply no such thing as a “Factory New” or “Minimal Wear”.
We will use the AWP | Asiimov again as the exception that confirms the rule, regarding the lowest float often being the best one, and most expensive.
Even though a lot of people would love a AWP | Asiimov in the “best” condition (lowest float value, which in this case is Field-tested), then in this case, the most sought after float on a AWP | Asiimov, is the “Blackiimov / Blackscope Asiimov”.
A “Blackscope” AWP | Asiimov is defined by having a float between 0.95x-1.00x. You can also buy a “Fake Blackscope” AWP | Asiimov, which are the ones with a float in the range of 0.90x-0.9499x.
The price depends on the float
A normal “Field-tested” AWP | Asiimov costs right now around €66 while an AWP | Asiimov Battle-Scarred with a float of 0.54x (a “normal” Battle-Scarred) is €38.
This makes sense, that it gets cheaper, when it has a worse float and the skin itself looks more beat up. But here is the catch on the AWP | Asiimov: When it has a float above 0.95x, it gets a black scope, as seen on the picture below.
The price of the AWP | Asiimov therefore greatly rises since this is both sought after and rare. The cheapest AWP | Asiimov with a float above 0.95x is at the moment at €187.
Why is it more expensive?
The primary reason that it gets more expensive, with a higher float, is because of the rare black scope, hence the name “Blackimov” or “Blackscope”.
Fun fact:
There is at the moment more than 244.000* AWP | Asiimovs in the game.
Only 3.471 of them have a float above 0.95x. Therefore, if you open a case and gets an AWP | Asiimov, there is only a 1,4% chance that you get a Blackscope.

How do you get skins with that high or low float?
The most simple answer is opening cases. You can also achieve some very low or very high float by doing tradeups. We do not encourage anyone to try and break these “records” by opening cases, since the odds of getting a new #1 best float, seems to be around 1/1.000.000.000.
